How to install

  1. Ubuntu

    Double-click the .deb file. App Center installs it after a warning that the package does not come from App Center.

    App Center cannot install a new version over an installed one. To update, run:

    $ sudo apt install ./readwyn_0.1.0-1_amd64.deb
  2. Debian 12

    On Debian 12, a double-click does not install a .deb file, so use this command for the first install too:

    $ sudo apt install ./readwyn_0.1.0-1_amd64.deb
  3. Fedora

    Double-click the .rpm file, or run:

    $ sudo dnf install ./readwyn-0.1.0-1.x86_64.rpm
  • A new version installs over the old one and keeps your libraries and settings. Removing the package keeps them too.
  • There is no apt or dnf repository, so a system update does not update Readwyn. The app checks readwyn.com once a day and shows a card when a new version is out.
  • The 3D library needs a Vulkan driver, and hearing a word spoken needs speech-dispatcher. The package recommends both.
  • The commands show the x86_64 file names. On arm64, use the name of the arm64 file.

Readwyn server for Linux

Run the server on a machine without a display, such as a NAS or a home server, and keep your libraries there. The Readwyn app on a Mac or a Linux computer connects to it as it would to another Mac, and so do OPDS reader apps.

Set it up

  1. Start the server

    Start the server for your user. It then starts with the system, even when nobody logs in. Replace USER with your user name:

    $ sudo systemctl enable --now readwyn-server@USER
  2. Pair a device

    On the server, make a pairing code:

    $ ryn-server code

    In Readwyn, open Settings › Other devices › Another device, and type the server’s address and the six digits.
